This remix explores whether mundane commutes are a waste of time or a psychological necessity. My goal was to transform the scientific data of Attention Restoration Theory into a visual piece that captures the emotional and physical action of a student’s daily transit. I wanted to move away from treating a commute as a simple gap in the day and instead frame it as an important period of mental reorganization.
I chose a digital collage to show the fragmented nature of a busy schedule. By layering satellite images of "gray space" against vibrant "green space," I illustrate the visual negotiation we perform every time we step outside. The student wearing headphones represents a person caught between two worlds: someone physically moving through a landscape but still mentally tethered to their digital obligations.
The composition highlights the contrast between feeling like a part of a small unimportant system and reclaiming "self” through movement. This remix presents the insight that a commute is a rare "parenthesis" in a high-pressure day. It suggests that walking allows the mind to untangle itself from a cluttered "junk drawer" of stress, providing a necessary space to breathe that sitting still cannot offer.
