I've chosen a few things over my life to share as artifacts, one being my college essay. I chose this because in my opinion it is one of the most powerful pieces of literature that I have written, and it is engaging with the audience.

I've also chosen a video that I created in my seminar class, which talks about the human experience with weather and obligatory walks in the cold. Both of these things are engaging with the audience, as the video includes many elements which are designed to be engaging, such as B-Roll, interactive text, and fun language.
My final artifact that I chose was a few excerpts from my high school magazine that I designed. I was the head of layout in that editorial, and I specifically crafted the front cover to relate to the articles inside. I used my skills of photography to tie it all together, and yet again it was one of the most engaging covers the magazine has seen, and many people wanted to open it up and read it.
All of these are different modes, i.e. video, text, and printed copy. I personally think they accomplish different things better than others. For example a printed copy can be very engaging in company with text, like a large photo with a story, or a graphic. But text itself can be very descriptive and imaginative, something that printed copy may not be able to accomplish. My favorite is the video, because you put so much work into editing and producing the video that the viewer has to do none of the work. Analysis of video and visual content is the easiest to process, while reading and looking at art may require some critical thinking. Video allows you to be autonomous and just absorb the information that is being sent in your direction. I think my portfolio will be important to me because it will showcase truly what I am capable of, and what my skills are.
